I was just surmising the Op might be in a similar situation. I used code and libraries somebody else took the time to develop.
Like a lot of similar items on Adafruit, they have good clear instructions for how to hook it up and use it with Arduino, but leave you hanging if you want to use it on a Pi. For me it was an SI1145 UV light sensor that uses I2C.
